Almond Pay; Redefining digital payments across Africa

Payments should move at the speed of intent — not cards, banks, or clunky middlemen. Almond Pay set out to make digital payments simpler, faster, and more inclusive by removing the heavy reliance on traditional card-based systems. My role was to help translate that vision into a clear, trustworthy product experience users could understand and adopt.

01/ The Almond Pay Platform

What Almond Pay is about

Almond Pay is a payment bridge designed to help users and businesses move money seamlessly without depending solely on cards. The product aims to connect banks, users, and businesses in a way that feels effortless, secure, and modern; especially in markets where payment friction is still very real.

This project focused on shaping how Almond Pay communicates trust, clarity, and ease of use through design.

02/ Research, discovery, and insights

Understanding the real problem

The first step was stepping back from features and focusing on perception.

Research and discovery were guided by:

  • Reviewing how users interact with existing payment platforms
  • Studying trust signals used by successful fintech products
  • Mapping user concerns around security, speed, and reliability
  • Internal discussions around business goals and growth plans

One insight stood out: users don’t want to learn payments — they want payments to disappear into the background.

03/ My design decision

Designing for trust and clarity

Visually, Almond Pay needed to feel modern, stable, and credible.

My design decisions focused on:

  • Clean layouts with strong hierarchy
  • Calm, confident color usage
  • Clear typography that supports readability
  • Consistent components that reinforce reliability

Nothing about the design needed to shout. Payments work best when they feel calm and predictable.

The landing experience explains what Almond Pay does, who it’s for, and why it matters — all within the first few scrolls. No buzzwords, no guessing.

Core payment experience

Making transactions feel effortless

The core flows focus on speed, clarity, and reassurance. Users know what’s happening, what’s next, and when an action is complete.

Business-focused use cases

Designed to scale with growth

The experience supports businesses looking to integrate Almond Pay into their payment stack, with clarity around benefits, use cases, and next steps.

04/ Results, learning, and reflection

Final thoughts & what I’d improve next

Designing for payments isn’t about flash — it’s about confidence.

Almond Pay’s experience is built to feel dependable first, and powerful second. That balance is what turns curiosity into usage.

With more time, I’d explore:

  • Deeper onboarding flows
  • More interactive education around payment flows
  • Expanded dashboards for business users
  • Additional trust signals as the product scales
